JAKARTA – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized Islamic countries, the United States to Europe, as Israel expanded its military operations to Rafah in southern Gaza, causing the death toll and injuries to the Palestinian enclave to continue to grow.Israeli airstrikes against Rafah killed dozens of people on two separate occasions, 45 people in Sunday’s attack and 21 people in Tuesday’s attack.Speaking at a parliamentary meeting of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in the capital Ankara, President Erdogan condemned the failure of fellow Muslim countries to take joint action against Israeli airstrikes.”I have a few words to convey to the Islamic world: what are you waiting for to make a joint decision?” he asked, quoted by the Daily Sabah May 30.”When will the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) implement effective prevention policies to stop Israel’s genocide?” President Erdogan continued.”Israel is not only a threat to Gaza but also to all mankind. No country is safe unless Israel is forced to comply with international law,” President Erdogan warned.Furthermore, President Erdogan also blamed the United States, Israel’s biggest arms supplier and other Western countries for their alleged involvement in the ongoing genocide.”Your hands are also tarnished by the blood of Palestinians from this massacre (Rafah),” said President Erdogan.”Heads of state and government of Europe, you have been involved in Israeli vampirism because of your silence,” he continued.”The recording of Rafah is unbearable. Do you not have the slightest conscience? There is no religion in this world that can justify this massacre,” he said.President Erdogan said values such as “democracy, human rights, free speech and the press, women’s and children’s rights” had disappeared due to “humanitarian deaths” in Gaza.He stressed “Israel’s genocide, atrocities and barbarity must be stopped by a united humanitarian alliance before (Israelian Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and the killer network become out of control.” “Zionism is being exposed worldwide,” he said.”Young people are starting to see how Zionism is a deviation that violates the law, and I hope this revolution will free the world from deviation from Zionistism,” President Erdogan said.Separately, citing WAFA, a medical source in Gaza reported on Wednesday that at least 75 people were killed and 284 others injured as a result of the last 24-hour Israeli attack, leaving the death toll of Palestinians in Gaza now 36,171 people and 81,420 others injured, since Israeli aggression 7 October.
