Panaji: The state commission for persons with disabilities, in association with the department for empowerment of persons with disabilities (DEPwD), Goa, Cultural House of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and We Care Festival presented the Indo-Iranian Film Festival on disability at Panaji recently.
“PwDs deserve the right to equality, right to education, and all rights that everyone enjoys. We should provide support in any way possible, ensuring they live a dignified life without facing any discrimination. These initiatives are to create awareness,” said the minister for social welfare, Subhash Phaldessai.
He was speaking at the Indo-Iranian Film Festival on disability.
“The teachers have brought their students here and the students will have the impact of these films on their minds for a long time.” Phaldessai said.
“Students should consider themselves fortunate that they have witnessed this event at this age. You will be ambassadors and pillars in the future,” he further said.
Also present at the event were Guruprasad Pawaskar, the state commissioner for persons with disabilities, Varsha Naik, director of DEPwD, Satish Kapoor, founding president of We Care Film Festival and Mohammad Reza Fazel, director of the Cultural House of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“The main purpose of these movie screenings is to promote widespread sensitisation across the state.” said Pawaskar.
“Our goal is to foster an inclusive environment where individuals and students with disabilities are given equal opportunities and treated with respect,” he said.
The movie screenings will also take place at Sankhali on June 27 and at Margao on June 28 for audiences.
