People in United Arab Emirates enjoyed long break during Eid Al Fitr and all eyes are on the second major Islamic festival Eid Al Adha.
UAE residents are looking forward to extended weekend in the second week of June 2024 to mark Arafah Day and the Eid Al Adha festival.
As the government is yet to announce the exact dates, Imam of NGS and Khateeb at Al Manar Islamic Centre shared updates about Eid holidays.
UAE scholar said that the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, causing the dates for both Eid festivals to shift approximately 10 to 11 days earlier each year. In Islamic calendar, months are either 29 or 30 days long, determined by the sighting of the crescent.
Arafah Day, which occurred on 9th day of Dhul Hijjah, will be holiday and it will be followed by Eid Al Adha, which lasts for three days.
As per this years Hijri calendar, first Dhul Hijjah is expected to be on Saturday, June 8. As per this prediction, Arafah Day would be on Sunday, June 16, and Eid Al Adha will be observed on Monday, June 17. It will be 5-day holiday from Sunday, June 16, to Wednesday, June 19.
The exact dates are yet to be announced as government will announce these dates depending on the Moon sightings.
