Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, on Saturday, stated that the constitution is flawed in execution rather than in substance or spirit.
Addressing a ceremony, the top judge advocated for measures to ensure women’s representation in all aspects of life.
“There are numerous positive aspects of our culture that we frequently overlook. The first word revealed in the Holy Quran is ‘Iqra’ (Read), which makes no distinction between men and women. Education should be made compulsory for all children aged 5 to 16, as Islam requires all Muslims, both men and women, to acquire knowledge.”
He also addressed the issue of honor killings, emphasizing how such cases are frequently abused. “Laws can be passed to safeguard women’s rights, and both Islam and denying women their property rights is a violation of Islamic teachings,” said Qazi Faez Isa.
Pakistan, as a federation, ensures women’s representation in assemblies through provincial allocations. “There are 50 women’s seats in the National Assembly through proportional representation,” he announced.
Chief Justice Isa emphasized the importance of remembering the positive aspects of Pakistani culture and the Constitution.
“Article 25 of the Constitution should guide our actions and ensure equality for all. The denial of women’s inheritance rights is a significant problem in our country that must be addressed,” says Justice Isa.
