Check out Masjid Ar Rahman’s Halal Food Festival this weekend in Coatesville.
Masjid Ar Rahman’s Halal Food Festival is hitting Coatesville for the first time, taking place on June 22 from 12 PM to 7 PM at Gateway Park, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
The festival aims to share the diverse and vibrant culture of the local Muslim community with the wider Coatesville area.
As the only mosque in Coatesville, which was established in 2004, Masjid Ar Rahman serves a diverse congregation that includes African Americans, Pakistanis, Hispanics, Indians, Sri Lankans, and more.
There will be wide variety of halal foods, including traditional dishes like biryani, kabobs, and lamb and chicken over rice, as well as American favorites such as halal burgers, hot dogs, steaks, and fries. There will also be a booth explaining the concept of halal, which means “permissible” according to Islamic law, similar to kosher in Judaism.
“This time we want to open it out to the entire City of Coatesville and beyond and let everyone experience the diversity and the vibrancy of our culture,” wrote a press release.
The festival will have 25 vendors and educational booths on Islamic finance, charity, and community service. The theme of the festival is “Make Halal A Way Of Life,” which highlights the application of halal principles into daily life like dressing modestly, ethically investing, and being compassionate within the community.
