Dushanbe, Tajikistan, 10 June 2024 – Islamic Development Bank President and Group Chairman, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, has reaffirmed unwavering commitment to contribute to Tajikistan’s growth and prosperity.
“The success of Tajikistan is our success. IsDB’s strategic framework for Tajikistan will boost our ongoing cooperation and enhance our interventions in the country,” Dr. Al Jasser said while addressing the National Development Council (NDC) meeting chaired by the Hon. President of the country, H.E. President Emomali Rahmon.
In his speech, H.E. Dr. Al Jasser commended Tajikistan’s remarkable economic progress under President Rahmon’s visionary leadership. He then underlined continued support for the national development drive in the country while highlighting the role of key projects like the Rogun Hydropower Dam in unlocking Tajikistan’s immense potential that promote green energy and water management.
Furthermore, Dr. Al Jasser enumerated the significant investments in green infrastructure, education, and agriculture, showcasing the strength of this enduring partnership.
“I applaud the efforts of the Government of Tajikistan to diversify the economy and enhance the role of the private sector. This is evidenced by the increased private sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product,” he elaborated.
“With a strategic framework to enhance cooperation and a focus on leveraging the nation’s young talent, natural resources, and visionary leadership, we are dedicated to supporting Tajikistan’s crucial role in Central Asia,” Dr. Al Jasser reiterated.
The Islamic Development Bank Group’s support for Tajikistan has been steadily growing over the last years, covering 105 projects for a total of US$ 915.5 million. Around 50% of the financing has gone to infrastructure projects at US$ 532 million, followed by education (16%) for US$ 150 million and agriculture (15%) for US$ 136.4 million.
Participants at Tajikistan’s NDC mainly comprised leaders and representatives of international organizations and other development partners as well as heads of relevant ministries and agencies of the country who reviewed the interim implementation of Tajikistan’s National Development Strategy for the period up to 2030.
