Lucknow, June 02: Emphasising the Shariat’s stance on global warming, the Lucknow Eidgah Imam, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali, has said that it is the obligation of Muslims to safeguard the planet and its creations.The Imam has issued a significant statement regarding Islamic guidelines and environmental responsibility.A recent interaction at Darul Uloom Firangi Mahal sparked this discussion, where a social activist presented a questionnaire concerning Islamic Shariat’s stance on global warming and related issues, he said.In response, Darul Uloom Firangi Mahal emphasized the fundamental Islamic principle of stewardship over the Earth, highlighting the obligation for humans to safeguard the planet and its creations.The statement underlined the importance of tree planting initiatives and nurturing saplings, urging for conscious efforts to conserve water resources. Additionally, the fatwa condemned actions such as setting fields and trees ablaze, labeling them as sinful acts.With the alarming depletion of the ozone layer attributed to human activities, the statement from Darul Uloom Firangi Mahal emphasizes the immediate need for adhering to these Islamic principles to address environmental concerns effectively.“It is the responsibility of all humans to take care of this world that has been created by Allah and protect all the creations from destruction…For this, more and more plantations be done and take care of the saplings…It has been said to not waste water…Setting fields and trees on fire has been termed a sin…So, it has been mentioned in the fatwa that since the Ozone layer is depleting rapidly due to our actions, it is our responsibility to act on these Islamic guidelines from today,” the seminary said, in their response.
