Srinagar, May 30s: The Department of Economics in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Srinagar Women’s College Batpora, Zakura, organized a three day workshop on “Econometrics and Its Applications in Social Sciences” from 28th May to 30th May 2024.
The worthy principal, Prof. Tehmina Yousuf, delivered the inaugural address where he highlighted the importance of research and faculty and encouraged research scholars to participate in such academic activities. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, and Dr. Shazia Shafiq Associate Professor, Department of History. The primary objective of the workshop was aimed at enhancing understanding and application of econometric methods in social sciences research. The three-day workshop commenced from 28th May and was spread over six technical sessions.
The sessions were conducted by experts from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade Kolkata, University of Kashmir, Islamic University of Science and Technology focusing on many diverse themes like Nature and types of data, questionnaires, and field surveys. regression analysis, time series analysis impact evaluation methods, and panel data analysis. The sessions provided crucial insights into assessing the impact of interventions in social sciences. An extensive hands-on training session was conducted on the final day which enabled participants to practically apply the econometric techniques learned during the workshop.
Faculty members from different Colleges of Higher education and research scholars from University of Kashmir, Islamic university of science and technology, central university of Kashmir and cluster university attended the Workshop. Participants praised the comprehensive coverage of topics and the expertise of the resource persons.
The event was a significant success, contributing to the academic and research capabilities of the attendees.
